A speed limiter is a device installed in the vehicle to prevent the user from exceeding a specific calibrated or regulated speed. Under new regulations in Singapore, a speed limiter device is mandatory for all commercial vehicles between 3501kg and 12,000kg in Maximum Laden Weight (MLW) from 1 January 2026.

Heavy vehicles can cause serious injuries when they are involved in accidents due to speeding and one of the effective ways to prevent speeding is through the installation of speed limiters.

In Singapore, operating a vehicle without a mandatory speed limiter or with a tampered device can lead to a fine of up to $1,000 or a jail term of up to three months for first-time offenders. Repeat offenders may face fines of up to $2,000 or imprisonment for up to six months.
